Akara becomes partner of global network for healthcare environmental hygiene

18 Oct 2022

Akara is pleased to announce that they have recently joined Clean Hospitals, a global network of stakeholders & leading experts with a goal of making hospitals safer through improved environmental hygiene.

The growing prevalence of superbugs and the COVID-19 pandemic serves to highlight the massive challenges that public health systems face to combat the spread of harmful germs. It further motivates the development of innovative new disinfection technologies as well as guidelines that support their use.

Akara is the first robotics company to become a partner of Clean Hospitals, joining big brands like BBraun, Gama Healthcare, and Ecolab.

Prof. Didier Pittet, the chair of Clean Hospitals and the Hospital Epidemiologist & Director of the Infection Control Programme and World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre on Infection Prevention and Control and Antimicrobial Resistance, at the University of Geneva Hospitals said:

“We are thrilled to welcome Akara to Clean Hospitals. Akara’s background in robotics and artificial intelligence offers an exciting complement to the existing expertise within the network. We look forward to working with them on the establishment of evidence-based best practices to guide the use of disinfection robots in hospitals and supporting their efforts to involve end-users in the development of automated decontamination procedures”.

Conor McGinn, Akara CEO, said:

“Akara is delighted to join the Clean Hospitals network. As a research-led company with a strong social mission, our values closely align with the Clean Hospitals initiative. We are excited to contribute to the activities of Clean Hospitals and look forward to playing an active role in advancing the gold-standard of environmental disinfection”.
